The Discovery Canyon Thunder will face off against the Air Academy Kadets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Discovery Canyon has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Discovery Canyon came up short against Palmer Ridge on Wednesday, falling 14-7. The Thunder haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Discovery Canyon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Holcomb, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another was Taylor McCann, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Air Academy let Liberty stack four runs on them in the third inning on Friday but luckily Air Academy prevailed anyway. The Kadets narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lancers 7-6. The Kadets haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Bailey Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Williams was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Keira Finkle was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Alex Finkle was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles.
Air Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty only posted a batting average of .321.
Discovery Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Air Academy, their win bumped their record up to 13-3-1.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Discovery Canyon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Air Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
