The Rogers City Hurons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell 55-44 to Inland Lakes. Rogers City lost against Inland Lakes in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 73-40 score last time.
Inland Lakes' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Schoonmaker, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. The contest was Schoonmaker's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Noah Shugar was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Rogers City's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Inland Lakes, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
Rogers City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Heston Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Heston Academy's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Rogers City's offense will have their work cut out for Rogers City. Inland Lakes will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Cheboygan at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheboygan and Inland Lakes are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
