Mogadore has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Lowellville Rockets at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Lowellville took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mogadore, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, Mogadore was able to grind out a solid win over Our Lady of the Elms, taking the game 35-28.
Mogadore's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ari Tompkins, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Tompkins has scored at least 25% of Mogadore's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Clark, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lowellville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They lost to Mineral Ridge on the road by a decisive 63-44 margin. While losing is never fun, Lowellville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 584th, while Mineral Ridge is ranked 139th).
The losing side was boosted by Morgan Lewis, who scored 13 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Gianna Palumbo, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Mogadore pushed their record up to 4-4 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.56 points. As for Lowellville, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Mogadore have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 38.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Lowellville, though, as they've been averaging only 24.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mogadore strolled past Lowellville when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 66-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mogadore since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
