Basketball Recap: Wren Skates Past Powdersville with Ease

Wren won the last time they faced Powdersville and things went their way on Friday too. The Hurricanes blew past the Patriots 72-34. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 25 points or more this season.

Leading Wren to victory were Hailey Burgess and Raegan Bryant. Burgess dropped a double-double with 21 points and 16 boards, while Bryant went 7-for-14 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven assists and seven rebounds. The matchup was Burgess' fourth in a row with at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Scarlett Howell, who posted eight points and seven steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Wren was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Powdersville only posted four.

Despite the loss, Powdersville still got an impressive performance from Caroline Sweet, who put up 19 points. That was a full 55.9% of the Patriots' points, marking the third time in a row Sweet has had more than a third of the team's points. Reid Wasson also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Wren now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Powdersville, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Wren wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-37 defeat against Nation Ford on the 13th. As for Powdersville, they will venture away from home to face off against Hart County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
