Platte Valley hasn't had much luck against Sterling recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Broncos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. Platte Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Platte Valley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Brush on Monday. The Broncos never let the Beetdiggers get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Dagan Gomez, who gave up just four hits to keep Brush off the board. Gomez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Platte Valley let Mason Hunt and Hudson Flummerfelt run wild. Hunt went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Flummerfelt went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Flummerfelt is becoming a predictor of Platte Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cooper Moffatt, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Sterling entered their game against Silver Creek on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Tigers took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raptors.
Dayten DiOrio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Caysen Bamford was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Platte Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Sterling, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Platte Valley might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Sterling in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
