After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Saint Andrew's, the Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars were happy to have found some success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 29-14 victory over Forest Hill. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Somerset Academy - Canyons also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Tristian Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tayegan Briskey, who picked up 116 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB 5.5 times. The heavy lifting was done by Jadon Goldman and Dennis Dresson who racked up 5.5 sacks between them.
When it comes to explaining why Forest Hill lost, one person who can't be blamed is Josh Herst. Despite the final result, he rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Morales, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Somerset Academy - Canyons pushed their record up to 7-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.6 points per game. As for Forest Hill, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Somerset Academy - Canyons will head out on the road to face off against King's Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. King's Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Somerset Academy - Canyons in Florida (King's Academy is ranked 106th, while Somerset Academy - Canyons is ranked 271st). Forest Hill does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
