Abington Friends extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-6. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Masterman Dragons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Abington Friends has suffered since March 30th.
Brennan Porecca was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Max Cassano was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
As for Masterman, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.
On Masterman's side, Adrian Rios-Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rios-MaRtinez was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Sam Philippi was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Masterman: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Danihel, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Looking ahead, Abington Friends will look to defend their home field on Friday against Germantown Friends at 4:00 p.m. As for Masterman, they are taking a road trip to face off against Carver High School of Engineering & Science at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
