After a string of four wins, the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost to Quinter at home by a decisive 67-51 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Wheatland-Grinnell of the 59-32 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Wheatland-Grinnell's loss came despite strong showings from Jordyn Beckman and Aliviah Ball. Beckman scored ten points along with two steals, while Ball scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Beckman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Wheatland-Grinnell's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-5. As for Quinter, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheatland-Grinnell will square off against Golden Plains at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wheatland-Grinnell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Tuesday. As for Quinter, they will head out on the road to take on Rawlins County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Quinter has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
