The Gresham Gophers will square off against the Roseburg Indians at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Gresham sitting on three straight victories and Roseburg on seven.
Gresham is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over Molalla last Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Gophers with their most commanding win of the season.
Keira Downing was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Downing was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on La Terra Foster-Frison, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Gaffeny, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Gresham lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Molalla didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Roseburg faced Willamette in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Indians' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolverines a 12-0 shutout. With that win, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Roseburg let Ciera Singleton and Cambria Bachmeier run wild. Singleton went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Bachmeier went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Singleton is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Terra Singleton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Roseburg's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Gresham, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Gresham has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Roseburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gresham suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Roseburg in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Gophers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
