The Lab University Prep Regional Lab Rats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 83-44 loss at the hands of Shining Light Academy. Lab University Prep Regional was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-19.
Despite the defeat, Lab University Prep Regional saw an underclassman step up: Malachi Lewis scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Jones, who scored nine points.
Leading Shining Light Academy to victory were Jayden Adams and Alik Lewis. Adams dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Lewis scored 27 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. The matchup was Lewis' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Ethan Kinney was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lab University Prep Regional's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Shining Light Academy, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lab University Prep Regional will take on Walnut Grove Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Walnut Grove Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Shining Light Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Veritas Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Veritas Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
