Fans got a thrill when Cam Akers and Jalon Kingston connected against Meridian. The longest such play in 6A Region 2 this season, the connection resulted in 81 yards.
Warren Central was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Vikings vanquished Natchez 27-6 earlier in the week.
Malik Dear was the best receiver in the league this week as Murrah lost to Callaway. Dear tallied 8 receptions for 171 yards. Marquisian Chapman helped Murrah's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 158 yards.
Joseph Willis put up the best numbers in passing as Madison Central lost to Petal. He finished with a total of 13 completions for 246 yards and 4 touchdowns. Willis' favorite target this week was Trey Smith, who caught 5 passes for 88 yards.
Braxton Bartlett made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Jaguars fell to the Panthers. The 5-foot-11 senior.
Jacquez Horsley was the best running back in 6A Region 2 this week. In 37 carries, he ran for 194 yards as Starkville lost to the Chargers. Teammate Darius Grayer added to the ground attack by rushing for 31 yards.
He went 13-24 with 0 interceptions.
Vonnie Howard provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Murrah fell to Callaway. He completed 22 passes for 373 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 6 yards.
Zackare grady's team's Howard and Dear have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Howard has thrown for 788 yards this season, while Dear has 21 catches for 391 yards. Smith from Madison Central leads the league in rushing with 485 yards.
Columbus scaled the state rankings by moving to 27 from 54 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Falcons were able to make move up by topping West Point 41-14.
