Union County extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 7 this week by beating Williston, 33-12. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Fightin' Tigers.
Dixie County took down Chiefland 34-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Shaquille Mitchem threw for 114 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 39 yards in the win.
Baldwin's dynamic duo of Jordan Mullis and Matthew Gunter proved tough for Newberry to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mullis threw for 218 yards and four touchdowns and Gunter had 76 yards receiving. William Gomillion helped Baldwin's passing attack out by catching two balls for 73 yards.
Ra'kheem Hoyt was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 267 yards on 28 carries as the Panthers lost to the Panthers. Trace Stankunas also contributed to the rushing game with 68 yards on the ground.
Baldwin's Mullis and Gunter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Mullis has thrown for 1401 yards this season, while Gunter, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 26 catches for 481 yards. The Indians' Alphonso Timmons leads the league in rushing yards with 1114.
The top two teams in 1A District 7 will face off this week when first place Union County takes on second place Newberry. Union County defeated the Red Devils last week, while Newberry beat Steve Shields 's team.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Chris Baker's team takes on Ronny Pruitt's team. The Panthers' offense has racked up 270 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Fightin' Tigers have allowed only 91 on the year.
Newberry's Hoyt is a mere 81 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Hoyt has rushed for 919 yards on 127 carries so far this year.
There should be lots of points scored when the Fightin' Tigers and the Panthers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Union County comes in having scored 263 this season, while Newberry has scored 270. The Fightin' Tigers scored 33 points last week as they topped Williston.
The Panthers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 38 points on the Indians. Hoyt in the win.
