Baseball Recap: Harbor Springs Gets the Win

Harbor Springs proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Johannesburg-Lewiston Cardinals 4-2. For the Rams, this counts as revenge for the 8-6 victory the Cardinals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2017.

Ben McShannock made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McShannock was also big at the plate, earning one run and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andru Vernale, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Chase Kruzel was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

Harbor Springs has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Johannesburg-Lewiston, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Looking ahead, Harbor Springs will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Elk Rapids at 5:00 p.m. As for Johannesburg-Lewiston, they will venture away from home to challenge Grayling at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
