Make it five blowout wins for the Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers this season. They put the hurt on Rockford with a sharp 62-36 win on Friday. Given Glencoe-Silver Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Rockford is ranked 273rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Rockford still got an impressive performance from Sienna Thomas, who scored eight points.
Glencoe-Silver Lake pushed their record up to 10-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Rockford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Glencoe-Silver Lake will face off against Mound-Westonka at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mound-Westonka comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Rockford's road trip will continue as they head out to face Watertown-Mayer at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Watertown-Mayer knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Rockford likes a good challenge.
