New Kent has gone 8-2 against Lafayette recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trojans will head out to face off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. New Kent is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
New Kent proved they can win big on Friday (they won by nine) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Poquoson 2-0. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Trojans have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Not much got past Robert Matthew Gentry, who gave up just two hits to keep Poquoson off the board. Gentry has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, New Kent let Lane Boyette and Brody Cash run wild. Boyette went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Cash went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Those two doubles gave Boyette a new career-high.
New Kent was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Lafayette was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bruton.
Lafayette saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breccan O'Grady, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Kyle Kremer was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
New Kent pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Lafayette's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Kent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. It's a different story for Lafayette, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain New Kent's hitters?
New Kent beat Lafayette 5-1 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
