The Middle Creek Mustangs came tearing into Monday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 65-46 win over Athens Drive. Given Middle Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Athens Drive is ranked 336th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Alysia Pergerson, who scored 23 points along with five steals. The game was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Skladanowski, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Athens Drive lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Makenzie Kelly, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Kelly is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Quincie Toran, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds.
Middle Creek's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Athens Drive, they have fallen quite a ways from their 19-9 record last season and are now at 2-5.
Middle Creek and South Johnston will round out the year against one another at 4:00 p.m. on December 27th at. Athens Drive will take on Millbrook in a holiday battle at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Millbrook is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
