Given Vista Murrieta's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Murrieta Mesa is ranked 332nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vista Murrieta found their leader in underclassman Cisco Munoz, who scored 25 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Munoz has scored all season. Brody Guinn was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Vista Murrieta pushed their record up to 20-2 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Murrieta Mesa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.
Vista Murrieta will be playing in front of their home fans against Chaparral at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chaparral has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 27. Murrieta Mesa won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Rancho Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. One thing working in Rancho Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight contests.
