The Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts Eagles will challenge the South Pittsburg Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
South Pittsburg will be up against a hot Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Eagles blew past Sale Creek 9-2 on Tuesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.
JYLIAN HARBIN made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. HARBIN was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on EMERY HENDERSON, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was SARAH IVY, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, South Pittsburg got themselves on the board against Grundy County last Monday, but Grundy County never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Yellowjackets. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won five in a row.
Not much got past Kaylee Kilgore, who gave up just a hit and racked up 18 Ks to keep Grundy County off the board. Kilgore has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, South Pittsburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophie Stalyon, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Those two hits gave Stalyon a new career-high. Kynleigh Rice was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for South Pittsburg, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
