Baseball Recap: Avalon Has No Trouble Against Bynum

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avalon). Everything went their way against the Bynum Bulldogs on Friday as the Avalon Eagles made off with a 16-3 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.

Roman Palacios and Kaden Houdek made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Palacios pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Houdek tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Palacios scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2, while Houdek scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Avalon let Josh Novak and John De La Garza run wild. Novak went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while De La Garza went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. De La Garza continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kade Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Avalon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bynum only posted an OBP of .421.

The victory made it two in a row for Avalon and bumps their season record up to 3-1-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12 hits in those games compared to only 3.33 in the others. As for Bynum, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avalon will take on Cayuga at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bynum, they will face off against Abbott at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give Bynum their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
