Pittston is 8-1 against Wilkes-Barre since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Patriots will host the Wolfpack at 4:15 p.m. Pittston is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Pittston nor Dallas made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Mountaineers. The three-run effort marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Pittston saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Aftewicz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Wilkes-Barre and Crestwood have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Wolfpack's pitcher stepped up to hand the Comets a 10-0 shutout. The Wolfpack have beaten the Comets the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Comets has come to flipping the script.
James Bottger was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Bottger was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Omar Jerez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Dalton Flowers was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pittston's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wilkes-Barre, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
Both Pittston and Wilkes-Barre just can't seem to miss. The Patriots have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Wilkes-Barre struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pittston was able to grind out a solid win over Wilkes-Barre in their previous meeting back in April, winning 5-0. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Wolfpack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
