The Goessel Bluebirds''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Central on the road and fell 60-12. Goessel was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-12.
Noah Schrag rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Jake Flaming was his top target, picking up 29 receiving yards.
It was another big night for Jace Wunderlich, who threw for 252 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Wunderlich hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for seven straight games. Russ Smith also helped out as he racked up 100 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Goessel to a paltry 158 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Central's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Kaden Miller and his two sacks.
Goessel's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Moundridge and 8-1 Canton-Galva (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.7% over those games). As for Central, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Goessel does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Central has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Cair Paravel at 6:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Cair Paravel is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
