Softball Recap: Othello Comes Up Short

Othello extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping them down to 6-11. They came up short against the Ellensburg Bulldogs, falling 14-4. That's two games in a row now that the Huskies have lost by exactly ten runs.

Alexa Prochet was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Prochet wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Imani Quezada, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was Quezada's first of the season.

As for Ellensburg, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by ten runs or more this season.

On Ellensburg's side, Addison Oehlerich was excellent, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave Oehlerich a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Stueckle, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Othello will host Toppenish at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.5 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ellensburg, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Ephrata at 11:00 a.m. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
