The Capital Jaguars''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 34-21 to Clovis. Capital lost against Clovis in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 40-6 score last time.
Despite the loss, Capital still got an impressive performance from Joseph Rodriguez, who picked up 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Clovis had a senior duo take command as Kash Roberts rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry and Jett Stone rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Capital to a paltry 242 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Clovis' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was John Royal and his two sacks.
Capital's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. As for Clovis, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Capital will take on Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Santa Fe is ranked 51st, while Capital is ranked 46th). As for Clovis, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Los Lunas at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Los Lunas' favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four contests.
