The Nebraska Lutheran Knights have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 40-28 to McCool Junction on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Nebraska Lutheran in their matchups with McCool Junction: they've now lost five in a row.
Nebraska Lutheran lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Eli Vogt, who scored 11 points. Lukas Worster was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Leading McCool Junction to victory were Mapieu Kouchinin and Ryland Garretson. Kouchinin scored 18 points along with six rebounds, while Garretson scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and three steals. Garretson is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Mcdonald, who scored eight points along with six assists and three steals.
Nebraska Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for McCool Junction, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nebraska Lutheran and Cross County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cross County will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. McCool Junction on the road again on Tuesday and play against East Butler on January 30th.
