It was a good run, but the Central Bearcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mattawan. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Central came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Mattawan is ranked 279th).
It was another big night for Delaney Elsmore, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds for Mattawan. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Elsmore has scored at least a third of Mattawan's points. Alyssa Hinkley was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Central's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Mattawan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Central will look to defend their home court on Friday against Kalamazoo Central at 7:00 p.m. As for Mattawan, they will head out on the road to challenge Norrix at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
