The Greenville Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Greenwood Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenville will be strutting in after a victory while Greenwood will be coming in after a loss.
Greenville fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They breezed by Pickens on the road to the tune of 52-7. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-0.
Greenville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mazeo "mj" bennett led the charge by picking up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. "mj" bennett was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. Greenville also got a significant boost from Rashaad Robinson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 87 yards.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Greenwood was not quite Westside's equal in the second half on Friday. Greenwood took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westside.
Greenville has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Greenwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Greenville against Greenwood in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 66-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greenville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
