The Legacy Lightning's five-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They took down Loveland 52-33. That's another feather in the cap for Legacy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Olivia Mortensen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Legacy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan Allshouse, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Several Red Wolves players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Courtlyn Yaussi, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Reece Peterson, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Loveland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Legacy's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Loveland, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Legacy will square off against Legend at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Legend presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Legacy in Colorado (Legend is ranked second, while Legacy is ranked 151st). As for Loveland, they will head out on the road to take on Thompson Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Thompson Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
