If the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs were feeling good off their 47-23 takedown of the Centennial Coyotes last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sunrise Mountain had to suffer through a rough 64-37 loss at the hands of Kellis. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sunrise Mountain has scored all season.
Sunrise Mountain's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Savanna Dotray, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Addison Wiemann who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds. Dotray is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played.
Kellis was led to victory by Luz Marian Santos Mas and Shanielle Mallory. Santos Mas dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Mallory scored 20 points along with six steals and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Santos Mas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Limbacher, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Sunrise Mountain's defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4. As for Kellis, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunrise Mountain and Paradise Valley will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Paradise Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday. As for Kellis, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Willow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Willow Canyon is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
