The La Salle Lancers will square off against the St. Monica Mariners at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. La Salle is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 15 games.
La Salle's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary with a sharp 12-0 win. Considering the Lancers have won 15 games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Peyton Herdina was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Maria Torres was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Aria Davis, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
La Salle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 15 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, St. Monica's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Wiseburn- Da Vinci by a score of 5-4.
St. Monica got a big performance out of Maliana Gutierrez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Bella Maldonado was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
St. Monica's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for La Salle, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. La Salle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. However, it's not like St. Monica struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Salle got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against St. Monica by a conclusive 14-1 score. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Mariners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
