Make it six blowout wins for the Amherst Broncos this season. They put the hurt on Alma with a sharp 59-38 win on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for Amherst as they're now sitting on six straight.
Amherst was led to victory by Tayje Hadwiger and Austin Adelung. Hadwiger dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Adelung scored 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Adelung has scored all season. Carter Riessland was another key contributor, scoring four points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Alma saw an underclassman step up: Zavier Mitchell scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Mitchell hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Faimon, who scored six points.
Alma struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Amherst pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Alma, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-1.
Amherst will head out on the road to face off against Cozad at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Cozad is ranked 19th, while Amherst is ranked sixth). As for Alma, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th.
