4A Region 6 recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 6 this week, Woods Cross beat Corner Canyon 35-27. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
East took down Bountiful 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Highland's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jamal Greer threw for 169 and 2 touchdowns and Calvin Keyes had 119 yards receiving. On the ground Greer chipped in 50 yards. Thomas Pembroke helped Highland's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 10 yards.
The Rams' dynamic duo of Greer and Keyes proved tough for Cyprus to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Pembroke helped Highland's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 10 yards.
Bountiful's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Braves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Trevor Lloyd has thrown for 1,004 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Samuel Merrill has 40 catches for 558 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between the Braves and Highland. Bountiful enters the contest ranked 23rd in the state, while Brody Benson's team ranks 20th.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Larry Wall's team's Merrill goes up against the Rams' Ben Bergeson.
Next week's game between the Braves and Highland will feature a good passing match up as Lloyd will test his arm against Bergeson's defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when Bountiful and the Rams face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Braves comes in having scored 242 this season, while Highland has scored 189. Bountiful scored 14 points last week as it lost to the Leopards.
Kearns made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,703 from 5,327. The advance stemmed from a 37-7 victory over Clearfield last week.
