Basketball Recap: Braylon Reado's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Royal over Almeta Crawford

On Friday, the Royal Falcons came up short against the Almeta Crawford Chargers and fell 61-51. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1002nd, while the Chargers are ranked 300th).

Royal lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Braylon Reado, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Reado has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zaelyn Shelton, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Royal smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Almeta Crawford only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Almeta Crawford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryce Vann, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrion Boyd, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 boards.

Royal has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for Almeta Crawford, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Royal Falcons face off against the Fort Bend Willowridge Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Royal is facing Fort Bend Willowridge at the right time seeing as Fort Bend Willowridge is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Almeta Crawford, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 84-56 loss against Stafford on the 7th.
