The McLane Highlanders lost against the Sunnyside Wildcats back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. McLane fell 63-54 to the Wildcats. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for McLane in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why McLane lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cedric Hughes. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Da?Zir Newhouse, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Sunnyside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cj Jones led the charge by scoring 16 points. Tanner Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
McLane dropped their record down to 13-11 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Sunnyside, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.
McLane will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Sanger West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Monday. As for Sunnyside, they will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fresno will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 717th, while the Wildcats are ranked 245th).
