Baseball Recap: Six Straight Road Wins for Plum

Plum won the last time they faced Penn Hills and things went their way on Monday too. The Mustangs blew past the Indians 8-2. Considering the Mustangs have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Max Vollmer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other pitching news, Braden Kemmerer looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Ryan Lafferty was a standout: he scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Timmy Ruggiero, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

Plum kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penn Hills only managed three hits.

Plum pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Penn Hills, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Plum will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
