Softball Recap: Millington Has No Trouble Against Reese

Millington won the last time they faced Reese and things went their way on Monday too. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Rockets. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ashlyn Bentoski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Morgan Matusik was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Damm, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

Millington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Millington and bumps their season record up to 9-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Reese, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4.

Coming up, Millington will head out to take on Caro at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Reese has already played their next matchup (against Sandusky), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
