Riverdale is on a six-game streak of home wins, while West St. John is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Riverdale Rebels will take on the West St. John Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Riverdale has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Even though Riverdale has not done well against West Jefferson recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Riverdale walked away with a 53-42 win over West Jefferson. Given Riverdale's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while West Jefferson is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverdale's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mazie Parmley, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Parmley hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaeshaunie Martin, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, West St. John strolled past Thrive Academy with points to spare last Thursday, taking the game 37-23.
Riverdale's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for West St. John, their win bumped their record up to 5-13.
Everything went Riverdale's way against West St. John when the teams last played back in November of 2023 as Riverdale made off with a 41-21 win. Will Riverdale repeat their success, or does West St. John have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
