The South Portland Red Riots will head out to square off against the Marshwood Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Portland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
South Portland will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Scarborough, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Red Riots came out on top against the Red Storm by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Red Riots' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Maegan Berry was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sadie Soucy, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Annalise Soucy, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
South Portland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are 4-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Marshwood's offense. They came up short against Kennebunk on Monday, falling 11-0.
Marshwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Hester, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
South Portland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. As for Marshwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
South Portland was able to grind out a solid win over Marshwood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 11-7. Do the Red Riots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
