The Andrew Jackson Academy Warriors will face off against the Cross Stingrays at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Andrew Jackson Academy has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Andrew Jackson Academy is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Dorchester Academy, falling 18-3. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Raiders since on Wednesday.
Andrew Jackson Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Crosby, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run marked the first that Crosby scored this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cross). Everything went their way against Legacy Christian Academy on Friday as Cross made off with a 16-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Savannah Hollings made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Cross let Sydney Hollings and Alaysia Hollings run wild. Sydney scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3, while Alaysia scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Alaysia has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Liz Odom, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Andrew Jackson Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Cross, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Andrew Jackson Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Cross struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
