Baseball Game Preview: Weston Wolves vs. West Ouachita Chiefs

The Weston Wolves are taking a road trip to take on the West Ouachita Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

If Weston beats West Ouachita with 18 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Weston beat Simsboro last Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-4. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won eight in a row.

Liam Weaver made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Bryce Zehr was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cole Tolar, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Weston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, West Ouachita never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Delta Charter with a sharp 15-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Chiefs needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Weston's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for West Ouachita, their record now sits at 12-8.

Weston suffered a grim 20-11 defeat to West Ouachita when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Weston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
