After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Limon, the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They walked away with a 48-41 win over Calhan. That's another feather in the cap for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Trey Smith was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The contest was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Eddy Franey, who scored four points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Calhan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will take on Byers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Calhan, they will head out on the road to face off against Limon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Limon is ranked 132nd, while Calhan is ranked 143rd).
