The Beaverton Beavers will head out to challenge the Liberty Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaverton is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Beaverton came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Southridge by a score of 13-11 on Monday. Even if the Beavers couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Maeve Gillmore led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Kennedy Riedel was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Liberty suffered their closest loss since March 23rd on Tuesday. They fell just short of Newberg by a score of 7-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Falcons in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost six in a row.
Liberty got a big performance out of Rylee Mathews, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lexie Huston, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Beaverton's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Liberty, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Beaverton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Beaverton's way against Liberty when the teams last played back in April, as Beaverton made off with a 20-10 victory. Do the Beavers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
