The Starmount Rams suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Mount Airy by a score of 50-48. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Starmount of the 62-49 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Starmount lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jadon Hurt-bailey, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hurt-bailey has scored all season. Another player making a difference was AJ Pardue, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Starmount smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Mount Airy to victory were Jourdain Hill and Mario Revels. Hill scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Revels scored 22 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Gallimore, who scored four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Starmount has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Mount Airy, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Starmount will face off against East Wilkes at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Airy, they will head out on the road to face off against Alleghany at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Alleghany focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
