Tanque Verde hasn't had much luck against Sunnyside recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Hawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Blue Devils at 10:30 a.m. Tanque Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Tanque Verde's tournament run continued when they took on Sahuarita on Tuesday. The Hawks fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 5-4.
Landon Walker made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Liam Brunell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside entered their tilt with Sahuarita on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They skirted past the Mustangs 6-4.
SABINO GONZALEZ made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, PEDRO LOPEZ was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was PIERCE CASTRO, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Sunnyside's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Tanque Verde, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Tanque Verde hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Tanque Verde might still be hurting after the 20-4 loss they got from Sunnyside in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
