Lowry hasn't had much luck against Fernley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Lowry will head out on the road to challenge Fernley at 3:00 p.m. Lowry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Lowry managed to slip by Elko the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Lowry came up short against Elko on Thursday, falling 16-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Buckaroos have suffered since April 12, 2024.
Connor Peterson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Erick Valencia, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Fernley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Churchill County. That's two games in a row now that the Vaqueros have lost by exactly two runs.
Spencer Pryor was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Vance Swindlehurst was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Even though they lost, Fernley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Lowry now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Fernley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10-1.
Fernley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lowry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. It's a different story for Fernley, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain Lowry's hitters?
Lowry suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Fernley in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Lowry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
