A feisty cat fight will be fought as Sumrall Bobcats face off against Lawrence County Cougars at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Lawrence County will be up against a hot Sumrall squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Sumrall's pitcher stepped up to hand Forrest County Agricultural a 13-0 shutout on Thursday. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.
Marley Moore looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Kara Applewhite was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Laura Smith was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Sumrall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forrest County Agricultural only posted an OBP of .154.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lawrence County). They blew past West Lincoln 13-5 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won three in a row.
Adaya Ball was a standout: she scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Erika Lambert, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Sumrall pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.6 runs. As for Lawrence County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Lawrence County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sumrall hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. It's a different story for Lawrence County, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Sumrall's hitters?
Sumrall was able to grind out a solid win over Lawrence County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 8-4. Does Sumrall have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lawrence County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
