The Gilmour Academy Lancers will square off against the Wickliffe Blue Devils at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gilmour Academy 4, Wickliffe 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Gilmour Academy came out on top against North on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Lancers blew past the Rangers 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Camden Dreiling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Gundling, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Hailey Gray, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Gilmour Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, Wickliffe earned a 4-1 win over Crestwood on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won seven in a row.
Leigha Blazetic was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Blazetic wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Bucar, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Maddie Kita also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Gilmour Academy and bumps their season record up to 8-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Wickliffe, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Gilmour Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Wickliffe in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
