Granada Hills Charter is a perfect 10-0 against Taft since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Highlanders will head out to square off against the Toreadors at 3:00 p.m. Granada Hills Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Granada Hills Charter proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Downey 5-4. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Granada Hills Charter got a great performance from Addison Moorman as she pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Moorman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elysse Diaz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Annabella Ramirez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Taft fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Chatsworth last Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chancellors by a score of 5-4. The loss continues a trend for the Toreadors in their meetings with the Chancellors: they've now lost four in a row.
Chiara Cioffi was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 8.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off 12 hits. Cioffi was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Katelyn Levine made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kimi Meneses also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Granada Hills Charter's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Taft, their record is now 2-6.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Granada Hills Charter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Taft struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Granada Hills Charter took their victory against Taft in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Toreadors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
