Having just played yesterday, the Holmes County Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Chipley Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Chipley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Holmes County, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, Holmes County was able to grind out a solid victory over Bethlehem, taking the game 49-42. Given Holmes County's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while Bethlehem is ranked 370th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Savannah Goodman was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Emma Whitaker was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Chipley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. The match between Chipley and Graceville wasn't particularly close, with Chipley falling 36-20. Chipley has not had much luck with Graceville recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Marlee Sullivan was Chipley's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Kinsleigh Hunter took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Holmes County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Chipley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Holmes County have been dynamite from deep this season, having only nailed 36.5% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Chipley struggles in that department as they've made 37.1% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Holmes County beat Chipley 60-47 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sullivan, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds.
