Shaker Heights is 0-3 against Brunswick since April of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Red Raiders will square off against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Shaker Heights knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Brunswick likes a good challenge.
While Shaker Heights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-9), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Euclid on Monday. Fans of the Red Raiders have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Scout Harvey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Milligan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Emerson Miller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Shaker Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Brunswick owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They blew past Magnificat 6-0.
Kiley Williams tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Lilly Leichliter was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Ava Beas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
The win got Brunswick back to even at 1-1. As for Shaker Heights, their record now sits at 4-0.
Shaker Heights suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Brunswick in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Red Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
