Ricky Lowdermilk and Matthew Nadeker provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Quincy. The connection was good for 71 yards, the longest such play in Mountain Valley this season.
Chester moved up to 567 from 624 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 51-13 win over Colusa helped the Volcanoes improve their standing.
Portola's dynamic duo of Lowdermilk and Oscar Romero proved tough for the Trojans to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lowdermilk threw for 257 yards and one touchdown and Romero had 99 yards receiving. Zack Martinez helped Portola's passing attack out by catching one ball for 71 yards.
Colin Houlihan was the most productive running back in the league this week. In nine carries, he ran for 139 yards as Chester bested Quincy. David Estacio also contributed to the rushing game with 121 yards on the ground.
University Prep's Kyle Schanuth and Nadeker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Mountain Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Schanuth has thrown for 834 yards this season, while Nadeker, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 11 catches for 233 yards. Martinez from Portola leads the league in rushing with 761 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Biggs takes on Terry Hernandez's team. The Wolverines are in fourth place, while the Volcanoes are in second place.
Steve Heskett's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Tom Goss & Jeff Ray's team, 49-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
